In the year 1970, Mr. A.K.S Khan noticed a gap in the Sri Lankan market for quality Shock Absorbers, and decided to do something about it himself. Mr. A.K.S Khan was able to establish a Shock Absorber factory which manufactured and refurbished shock absorbers for all makes and models, be it European, German, Indian or Japanese vehicles.

Due to his commitment to quality and his exceptional knowledge regarding shock absorbers, Mr. A.K.S Khan, along with his two sons, was awarded with commendations from many of the major car manufacturers and their agents such as DIMO, Freudenberg (former agent for Toyota), Carmart (agent for Nissan), AMW, Colonial motors and Willys motor company. Commendations were also received from companies such as Unilever and Aitken Spence Co. regarding the quality of Shock Absorbers that were supplied to them.

During the year 1980, Mr. A.K.S Khan and his two sons were able to successfully refurbish shock absorbers for the Sri Lankan Railway, while also supplying shock absorbers for the Sri Lankan Air Force and Sri Lankan Police. In 1985, Mr. A.K.S Khan worked closely with the Ministry of Defense and was able to successfully refurbish and supply shock absorbers to armored vehicles and trucks during the Civil war. These achievements helped Mr. A.K.S Khan to gain popularity among the leaders of the country at that time including former president J.R Jayawardena and Hon. Lalith Athulath Mudali.

Once the business was passed down to his two sons, they decided to part the business on a friendly note, and Mr. S.K.M Shuayb decided to initiate Lanka Shock Absorbers independently. Through the immense knowledge and valuable insights gathered as the former Managing Director of his father’s company, Mr. S.K.M Shuayb envisions to spearhead Lanka Shock Absorbers to reach great heights, and continue his father’s legacy.
